You have to fight. You always have to fight. You have to fight for what you own, for what you love, for everything. If you don’t fight, you lose everything.
That’s what I learned.
You know, you find love pretty hard. And when you find it, you have to defend it with all you’ve got. You have to cherish all those sweet moments, every kiss, every touch, everything. Because you never know when this syringe of happiness will be taken away.
From all the people, I had to fall in love with the Commander. Erwin Smith, the Commander of the Survey Corps. At first, I was hopeless. I wasn’t a good soldier, I wasn’t really beautiful, and I wasn’t even such a good person…But he loved me back. I don’t know how this happened…But he really did. I confessed to him first; I couldn’t bear it anymore. And he said that he loved me back.
It was crazy in the beginning…We used to meet in secret, because I was only a cadet. Neither of us wanted problem. His kisses lifted me up when I was down. Every touch of his sent me to Heaven, every comforting word of his took my sorrow away. His room became our room, and I used to sneak there at night, careful not to be spotted.
My heart ached in every expedition…I was scared. Scared that I could lose him, scared that I could die and never see him again.
But I learned to fight.
I learned to be strong for him.
Then…His arm…
I remember I went to his bed, crawled next to him, then cried for a whole night. I gripped onto his shirt like it was life itself. In the morning, we didn’t care that Pixis saw us.
Before I left, he whispered something in my ear.
“Be strong as always, [First Name]. You know I love you.”
I thought that it was the end.
But it wasn’t.
I was bent, but not broken. I rose up again, for him.
I had to defend my love for him.
I had to fight.
